# Getting started with DVI

> Set up your notification emails, run your first inspection, and send the report to a customer.

This tutorial walks you through setting up DVI and sending your first inspection report. You'll know it's working when the report reaches your customer and the confirmation email reaches your team.

Set aside about fifteen minutes, and use a real vehicle that's in your bay.

## Before you start

A new location has **no notification addresses of its own**. Until you add some, notifications fall back to whatever your account has set — which may be head office rather than your service desk, and you can't change it from here. So that's step one.

## Step 1 — Add your notification emails

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open DVI">
    Start from the work order for the vehicle in your bay, and open the inspection from there. DVI arrives with the work order, vehicle, and customer already attached — that's why you start from the work order rather than opening DVI on its own.

    You'll know you're in the right place when your shop name appears under the **AI Digital Vehicle Inspection** heading.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap the gear beside your shop name">
    It sits just to the right of the name. There's no label on it — look for the small gear.

    <Frame caption="The gear beside your shop name opens settings.">

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Location">
    Settings opens with two choices, **Location** and **Account**. Pick **Location**.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Scroll to Notification Emails and add your addresses">
    Type an address, then use **Add email** for each extra person. The first address in the list is where customer replies go, so put your service desk first.

An Add email button sits below the list." width="1290" height="1416" data-path="images/dvi/auto-settings-notification-emails-mobile.png" />
    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    **Save** and **Discard changes** only appear once you've edited something, so don't go looking for a Save button before you start typing. Tap **Save**, then head back to your inspection.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  Your addresses stay in the list after you reload the page. Five is the limit — **Add email** disappears once you have five.

## Step 2 — Run the inspection

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the vehicle and customer details">
    The work order, vehicle, and customer usually arrive already filled in. Fix anything that looks wrong before you go further. The customer's email and phone decide how the report can reach them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Rate each item">
    Work through the sections and mark every item **OK**, **Suggested**, or **Required**. Add measurements where you have them, like tread depth or pad thickness.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Take photos of anything you're recommending">
    Photograph the worn part itself. A picture of a thin brake pad explains the recommendation better than a sentence can.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your notes">
    Say what you found in plain language. The customer reads these.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the inspection">
    Your work saves as you go, so you can put the phone down and come back to it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  Every item you inspected shows a rating, and nothing you meant to recommend is still marked **Pending**.
</Check>

## Step 3 — Send the report

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tap Review & Send Report">
    The button sits at the end of the inspection, after the last section. Make sure mileage and customer name are filled in — it checks for both.

    You'll be asked **Add a Walkthrough Video?** if you haven't recorded one. **Continue Without Video** moves on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review what the customer will see">
    The **AI Inspection Report** panel opens, with **Inspection Summary** and **Service Recommendations**. Draft the summary, check the services, and **set your own prices** — the suggested amounts are national-average estimates. See [performing an inspection](/dealers/dvi/performing-inspections) for each of those tasks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap Send Report">
    The button sits at the bottom of the panel. If you haven't drafted a summary, it asks first — the report can go without one, but a summary is the part customers actually read.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick how to reach them">
    Turn on email, text, or both. Email needs an address on file, and text needs a mobile number.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add anyone else who should get it">
    Use **Add Contact** for a spouse, a fleet manager, or whoever signs off. Each contact gets their own email and text choice.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send">
    The report goes out, and your team gets a confirmation email.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  Within a minute or two, the customer has the report and a **Report sent** confirmation lands in your notification inbox. If the confirmation doesn't arrive, check the addresses in step 1.
</Check>

## What happens next

The customer opens the report, reviews your recommendations, and approves or declines each one. When they finish:

* They get a confirmation listing what they chose.
* Your team gets an email with the approved and declined totals.

If they reply to the report email, everyone on your notification list gets a copy. Answer it like any other email.
