# Overview

> Three routes take a card through Square. Pick the one that matches where your customer is.

  Connect Square first. Complete the checks in [Square setup](/dealers/pos/square-setup). Without a Square connection, none of these routes has a payment page behind it.

## Choose the right payment method

Three routes take a card, and where the customer is decides which one.

| Route | Use it when |
| - | - |
| **Credit/Debit Card** in **Process Payment** | The customer stands at your counter. The charge goes to your Square Terminal. See [Taking payments](/dealers/pos/taking-payments). |
| [**Contactless Payment Link**](/dealers/pos/managing-payment-links) | The customer pays later, in their own time, from the link you send. |
| [**View invoice**](/dealers/pos/taking-phone-payments) | The customer is on the phone and reads you their card. |

<Warning>
  **Credit/Debit Card** sends the charge to a physical Square Terminal. Choose it for a customer who is not standing at the counter and the terminal waits for a card nobody is holding.
