# Managing non-catalog tires

> Order, receive, and sell a tire that does not have a specific product in the catalog.

Use the generic tire that matches the tire's rim diameter. This keeps the purchase cost and sale history attached to one generic item.

  Use a generic tire only when a specific tire product is not available in the inventory catalog.

## Order and receive a generic tire

**When:** You need a purchase record for a tire that is not in the catalog.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Purchase Orders">
    Open **Purchase Orders**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the purchase order">
    Select **New Purchase Order**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the generic tire">
    Use **Search Products** to find the generic tire that matches the rim diameter, such as **Generic 22" Tire**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the quantity">
    Enter the quantity you ordered in **Quantity**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the cost">
    Enter the tire cost in **Cost**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add FET when needed">
    Enter **FET** when it applies to the tire.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the line items">
    Select **Save** in **Add Products**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mark the order as ordered">
    Select **Mark as Ordered**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Receive the purchase order">
    When the tires arrive, select **Receive Inventory**. Record the items you received.
  </Step>

<Check>
  A full receipt shows the status **Received**. An incomplete receipt shows **Partial**. The received quantity shows on the generic tire in **Inventory**.

## Add a generic tire directly to inventory

**When:** You already have the tire and do not need a purchase order record.

  <Step title="Open Inventory">
    If your shop has Inventory turned on, open **Inventory**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the generic tire">
    Open the generic tire that matches the rim diameter.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the adjustment">
    Select the tire's **Available** count.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update the quantity">
    With **Action** set to **Adjust Available**, enter the quantity on hand in **New**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the quantity">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the cost adjustment">
    Select the tire's **Cost** value.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the cost">
    With **Action** set to **Set Cost**, enter the tire cost in **Unit Cost**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the cost">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

<Check>
  The generic tire shows the **Available** quantity and **Unit Cost** that you entered.
</Check>

## Sell the tire on a work order

**When:** You are ready to add the non-catalog tire to a customer's work order.

    Open the customer's work order.

  <Step title="Choose the tire service">
    Choose the tire replacement service that your shop uses.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the tire service">
    Select **Add Service**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Swap the tire">
    On the service's tire line, select the **Replace Tire/Part** action.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the generic tire">
    Select the generic tire that you received or added to **Inventory**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update the description">
    Replace the generic name in **Description** with the tire's actual name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete the sale">
    When the work is done, select **Set Completed**.
  </Step>

  The work order shows the tire's actual description.
