# Text to Pay and Tap to Pay

> Create a Square payment link from a work order, share it with the customer, or take the payment through Square Tap to Pay.

Use this method when the customer is away from a terminal or wants to pay from a phone.

## Create a payment link

**When:** The customer needs a secure link, or you want the work order in the Square app for Tap to Pay.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Process Payment">
    Open the customer's work order. Select **Process Payment**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the payment method">
    Under **Payment Method**, select **Contactless Payment Link / Tap to Pay in Square app**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the amount">
    Keep the full balance or enter a partial **Amount**. The amount cannot exceed the balance.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit the request">
    Select **Submit**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The result dialog explains what happened:

* **Contactless Payment Link Sent** means TireTutor used at least one saved contact method.
* **Contactless Payment Link Created** means the customer has no email address or phone number. Share the link manually.

Square emails the link when the customer has an email address, and TireTutor texts it when the customer has a phone number. The dialog lists each delivery method it used.

## Share or open the link

The result dialog gives you three options:

* Select **Copy link** to copy the **Contactless Payment Link**.
* Select **Open Contactless Payment Link** to open the customer's secure payment page.
* Select **View in Square Dashboard** to open the Square invoice.

## What the customer can pay with

The payment page behind the link takes a card, a direct bank transfer under **Pay directly from your bank (ACH)**, **Cash App Pay**, and **Afterpay**. **Express checkout** offers Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Apple Pay works in Safari on an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Afterpay depends on the invoice amount and Square eligibility.

Each of these needs the customer's own phone or computer. They suit a customer who reads the invoice themselves, not one who reads a card out to you.

## Take payment with Tap to Pay

To accept the payment in person with Tap to Pay, use the Square app on your phone.

Square controls that flow inside its own app. Follow Square's guides for [Tap to Pay on iPhone](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7786-get-started-with-tap-to-pay-on-iphone) or [Tap to Pay on Android](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7960-get-started-with-tap-to-pay-on-android).

## Replace or cancel a link

Sending a second link creates a new Square invoice and cancels the first one. TireTutor still issues the new link if that cancellation fails. Before you share the replacement link, check the Square Dashboard for the earlier invoice. If it still shows as open, cancel it there.

TireTutor has no cancel button for a payment link, so cancel the Square invoice in the Square Dashboard instead.

<Check>
  After payment, the work order records it under **Payments**.
</Check>
