# Managing pages and menus

> Create a custom page, add header or footer links, and turn off a page your shop no longer needs.

Use **Pages** for website destinations and **Navigations** for their menu links.
You need **Site Manager** access for the page tasks below.

<Warning>
  Saving changes the content your live website uses. Removing a menu link does not turn off its page.

## Create a custom page

**When:** Your shop needs a coupon or promotion page.

<Warning>
  Each site can have only one page of each type, including **Custom**.
  If your site already has a custom page, contact support before adding another.

  <Step title="Open Pages">
    Select **Pages** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start a page">
    Select **Create New**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select your shop in Site">
    The **General** tab holds the page settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Page Title">
    Use a short name, such as “Coupons”.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Custom in Type">
    This choice makes the custom content field available.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review Slug">
    The editor generates it from **Page Title**. A title of “Coupons” gives the path `/coupons`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select SEO">
    This tab holds the page's search title and description.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Meta Title">
    An example is “Coupons | Aubin's Auto”.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Meta Description">
    An example is “Find tire and service offers at Aubin's Auto in Watertown.”
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Content">
    **Page Content** holds the custom page's text, images, and links.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Page Content">
    Include the offer, its dates, and any conditions customers need.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the page">
    Check the offer details before saving.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the page">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

  The new page appears in **Pages**. Its menu link needs a separate change in **Navigations**.

## Add a header or footer link

**When:** Customers need a menu link to an existing page or another website.

The site has one navigation record with separate **Header Navigation** and **Footer Navigation** tabs.
Only header items have a **Group** field.

  <Step title="Open Navigations">
    Select **Navigations** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open your site's navigation record">
    Its **Site** field identifies the website.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the menu tab">
    Select **Header Navigation** or **Footer Navigation**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a menu item">
    Add one row to the selected menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Label">
    Use the text customers see, such as “Coupons”.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Group for a header item">
    **Top Level** creates a standalone link. Another listed group places it in that group's menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the link type">
    Select **Internal Page** for your website or **External URL** for another website.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the destination">
    Select the page in **Internal Page**, or enter the full address in **External URL**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set Open in New Tab if needed">
    Turn on this checkbox when the link needs a separate browser tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the navigation">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test the link on your website">
    Select the new menu link on the live site.
  </Step>

  The link opens the intended destination from the correct menu.

## Take a page off the site

**When:** A coupon expires or your shop no longer needs a page.

<Warning>
  Turn off the page to keep its content. Deleting a record also removes its version history.
</Warning>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the page in Pages">
    Select the page you want to take off the site.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select General">
    This tab holds the **Enabled** checkbox.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn off Enabled">
    Clear the checkbox for this page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the page">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open your site's record in Navigations">
    The menu links are separate from the page setting.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove the page's header link">
    Remove its row from **Header Navigation**, if present.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove the page's footer link">
    Remove its row from **Footer Navigation**, if present.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the navigation">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the old page address">
    If it still shows the page after refreshing, contact support.
  </Step>

<Check>
  The page is unavailable at its old address, and its menu links are gone.
</Check>
