Before you start
You need three things in place on your TireTutor account. If you’re already running TireTutor SMS, steps 2 and 3 are almost certainly already set up — they happened when your shop joined.Turn it on
1
Ask your TireTutor contact to turn on SMS Remarketing
SMS Remarketing is activated per shop. Reach out to your TireTutor representative and ask them to turn it on for your account. This is a one-time step.
2
Verify your shop's email
Confirm that the email address in your TireTutor settings is one you actually monitor. This is where customer replies will land. If it’s stale, update it before reminders start sending.
3
Verify your tiretutor.com page
Open your shop’s tiretutor.com page in a browser. Make sure the listing looks right — name, address, services, photos. Customers will land here when they click Schedule in the reminder email.
4
Keep logging service work as usual
There’s nothing new to do day-to-day. Log oil changes, tire rotations, and tire replacements in your POS the way you already do. The system reads the names of your service lines to decide when to remind whom. Most shops are already using names that work — see Naming services in your POS to confirm.
You’re set up. Within 24 hours, TireTutor begins watching your POS service history and identifying eligible customers.
What happens next
In the first 24 hours
TireTutor reads your historical service records from the POS. It looks for customers whose next oil change, rotation, or new tires are about due — based on typical service intervals. Customers who match the eligibility rules start receiving reminder emails. In the first week
A handful of your customers — typically a few to a dozen — will be in the eligibility window and receive a reminder. The exact number depends on how much service history you have logged and how it’s spread across customers. In the first month
You’ll see a few dozen reminders go out across your customer base. Some will reply directly to your shop’s email. Some will click Schedule and book through your tiretutor.com page. Some will do nothing — that’s expected; it’s a soft reminder, not a sales call. After a few months
The cadence steadies. Active shops typically reach 20–50 reminders per month around the six-month mark, then 50–100 per month after a year of service history has accumulated. You’ll see customers returning for service who might otherwise have drifted to a competitor. (See the Volume expectations table for the full trajectory.)Confirm it’s working
A few signals that the program is running correctly:- Customer replies start landing in your shop’s email inbox — sometimes thanks, sometimes booking requests.
- Your scheduling channels (phone, online, walk-in) pick up customers who mention the email.
- A test reminder shows up in your own inbox with your shop’s name as the sender. Ask your TireTutor contact to send one to your shop’s email address — they can trigger it against a real customer profile so you see exactly what your customers see.
